With the City’s 102nd charter day just around the corner, the City Government of Baguio has announced a series of events for the said activity. The City Government through the City Tourism office and in cooperation with the different private companies and establishments in Baguio City has lined up several events to celebrate Baguio City’s 102nd Charter Day. One of the highlight of course is the opening parade that will be participated on by the different public as well as private entities. Many are excited about the parade as this will also showcase the different talents of Baguio School’s Band, if the inclement weather would persist participants of the parade will however be confined only within the Baguio Convention Center. Another activity to be launched is the I Love Baguio Slogan which, according to the Baguio City Tourism officer encourages the residents of Baguio City to show their love for Baguio City by joining together and contribute to the beautification of Baguio City and to regain its title as the Cleanest and Greenest City in the Philippines. For the Private Sector the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio will continue with its Mr. and Ms. HRAB pageant on September 2, 2011. On September 1-3, 2011 there will be a culinary competition that would be held at the Baguio Country Club and the SM Atrium.
SM will also launch the “A Salute to the Filipino Farmer” event on September 3, 2011 and the Heritage Mansion will hold a Fashion show dubbed as “My Place Fashion Show”. Sports enthusiasts will also have their share of activities as different sports competition such as darts, golf, wrestling and wushu are going to be held in the month of September as part of the City’s Celebration of its Charter Day. The Search for Mr. Baguio and Binibining Baguio will also be held towards the end of September.
For the opening rites Congressman and 8 time boxing champion Manny Pacquiao who earlier expressed his willingness to join the celebration begged off due to some prior commitments regarding his boxing match on November 2011.
Baguio City is also known as a character city and because of this, relevant activities will also be launched such as the Umbrella Parade of 100 characters and the Prayer for the City activity which will be participated by the different religious groups in the City of Pines. The Baguio Charter Day has always been the launching point of the myriad of activities and celebrations from the month of September which is Baguio Day, November to December – the Christmas Season, January to March the Panagbenga Festival and March to May the Summer Season.
