Inside the Camp – The Forest Lodge Stay

For a Baguio City Resident, born and raised in the city of pines one of the things that i would like to experience is to stay at Camp John Hay for a night or so. When I was young i was only able to visit Camp John Hay whenever we attend parties or when we decided to jog inside the camp. The fresh cool pine scented air of inside the camp really beats jogging at the center of the city where you are bothered by smoke, dust and noise. The calm, peaceful and cool ambiance inside the former US Military camp makes every visit worthwhile.

My dream to spend the night inside the Camp was fulfilled when we checked in at one of the newest hotel in inside Camp John Hay, The Forest Lodge. Having been invited to stay at the Forest Lodge did not only fulfill my dream of staying inside the camp but also makes it a reality for me to try the hotel as what i have stated in my previous Forest Lodge Opening Blog post.

The Forest Lodge Lobby

Upon arriving at the hotel, i was surprised on how calm the place was, considering the fact that the first time i saw the place was during the opening where there were lots of people partying. My eyes widened when i saw their huge hotel lobby, I am no architecture expert but i believe the lobby design was patterned from a typical american forest lodge, oh hey maybe that is where it got its name!

Part of the Lobby

At the center of the lobby is a fireplace, the surrounding areas are log cabin designs, walls showcases different photos of Baguio City and the Cordillera region. One area at the lobby showcases the different artworks which are also for sale. Upon entering the lobby you will see to the right the reception area and the Hotel Restaurant known as The Twist.

Upon checking in, we were given room 452. When we entered the room i was at first honestly disappointed because i thought the room was so small. I have to really work on making first impressions, because what i thought was a small room was actually two levels of rooms. The first level is where you can find the kitchen area, the first rest room and the living room where it connects to a veranda or balcony overlooking the Mile-Hi Center. The second level is where the bedroom is found with two huge king/queen sized beds, an LED TV, the second rest room and a powder room/area, i was hoping that the second floor also has a balcony though but it works!

A Nice Welcome Treat!

The Forest Lodge Staff

One thing i appreciate so much is the warm welcome that you get from the Hotel Staff. The surprise pastries and the welcome letter we got at our hotel bedroom is a testament that we are in for a treat. Apart from the Hotel being located inside one of Baguio’s premier tourist destination the Forest Lodge’s advantage is within its courteous and friendly staff. My family have been in so many Hotels some of them were four star class even but this is only the second hotel i saw where you can really feel the warmth of the people running it.

The Warm Forest Lodge Staff

When i woke up at around six a.m. i found myself wanting to go to the balcony and inhale some of the freshest pine scented air. The Balcony is just about four to five feet away from the nearest pine tree. What stunned me however was the fact that when I went to the balcony was the sound of the birds singing. It was so pleasant that i wanted to see where it was coming from, sadly i was not able to see where exactly it was but i still wanted to record a video of it for everyone to experience what i’ve experienced. Sorry for the video orientation though..
