In case you are wondering why there are no school today in the Cordillera region, nope, its not because of the typhoon, rather, it is because July 15, 2014 was declared by the Malacanang as a Non-working Holiday for the Cordillera region to commemorate the establishment of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) also known as the Cordillera Day.
The Cordillera Day
The Cordillera Administrative Region was formed by virtue of the Executive Order number 220 signed by then President Corazon Aquino in 1987. Today, the region which includes the provinces of Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Apayao, Abra, Mountain Province and Baguio City are celebrating this foundation day with the theme: “Boosting the Economic Competitiveness of the Cordilleras for ASEAN 2015;” as provided for in Proclamation No. 795 signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa.
